[Cloakroom Style] What is the “best fabric” for spring suits?

The cold weather is soon reaching its peak, so I hope you are all doing well.

At The Cloakroom, autumn and winter tailoring is now complete. Spring fabrics are beginning to arrive one after another.

We are seeing an increase in orders for spring three-season suits, which can be worn throughout the year and are the key piece of any suit style.

This time, we will introduce three "best fabrics" that the owner, Shimada, wholeheartedly recommends when tailoring a navy suit for three seasons at our store. Although the appearance and suitable occasions are slightly different, these are three materials that you can't go wrong with no matter which one you choose.

1. For quality, go to Loro Piana Tasmanian  Tasmanian, which was renewed in 2021 from S'150 to S'170 , is Loro Piana's signature suit material. This ultra-high-spec fabric is woven with 104 - count warp and weft double threads from extremely fine raw wool with an average diameter of 15 microns, ensuring reliable quality and a great feeling when worn.

Fine raw wool makes the fabric lighter and softer, and more comfortable to wear, but if it is too light, it has disadvantages such as poor wrinkle recovery and the fabric not being able to hold a nice silhouette.

This material is just the right weight at 250g per meter. It has natural stretchability, wrinkles return easily, and the center crease does not easily disappear, so you can wear it with confidence.

Some dress suit fabrics have a shiny, luxurious feel, but that is not the case with "Tasmanian." Instead, it has a natural sense of luxury that comes from the quality of the material.

If you are looking for a suit that gives an honest and classy impression, this is the first material you should consider.

Tailoring prices start from 289,300 yen (tax included).

2. The presence of a champion: the Ermenegildo Zegna Trofeo

Ermenegildo Zegna is a prestigious Italian brand that leads trends in men's clothing, and it is no exaggeration to say that it is now the world's champion of men's clothing.

One of their representative fabrics, "Trofeo," is made from carefully selected materials from raw wool that has won trophies at the Australian Raw Wool Show.

Not only is it extremely high quality, but the appeal of Zegna fabrics is their "masculinity." Even a simple, plain navy color has a sheen and texture that asserts a sense of class. It has a very mannish, regal air that evokes the days when gentlemen were more gentlemanly than they are today. The weight is also just right, at 240 grams.

If you want a suit that gives a masculine and reliable impression, "Trofeo" is the right choice. Tailoring prices start from 407,000 yen (tax included).

3. Dormeuil Amadeus: A reliable companion for business trips and rainy days

"Amadeus" is a best-seller from Dormeuil, a historic French luxury fabric merchant.

At 310g per meter, this is the sturdiest of the fabrics we're introducing, and the only one made in the UK. While many of today's spring items are around 200g in weight, 300g is a fairly sturdy fabric, but it doesn't feel "heavy."

The sexiness and luster created by the pressing process, called paper press, which involves sandwiching paper between the fabric, is unique to Dormeuil. The fabric is highly durable and wrinkle-resistant, and will always stay in good condition, making it ideal for business trips and other such occasions.

In fact, when Shimada often went on business trips to Europe, this "Amadeus" suit was his companion. Even if you fold it and put it in your suitcase, it will recover surprisingly well if you hang it on a hanger overnight at the hotel. It won't lose its shape easily, so you can rely on it on rainy days.

If you want a suit that is strong enough for business trips and traveling, and you want to keep a neat appearance at all times, we recommend that you have an Amadeus suit. Tailoring prices start from 286,000 yen (tax included).
